Purpose
{{Mixed-drink-stub}} is for use in identifying and processing stub articles related to the Mixed Drinks Task Force, which works to improve articles related to mixed drinks and related supplies and drinkware.
Articles should contain information that indicates or illustrates the notability and popularity of the article's topic. A verifiable history of the drink, documented use by notable people or in notable situations, and frequent references within popular or historical cultures, all help an article stand on its own and reduce the likelihood that the article will or should be deleted.
This particular template identifies articles concerning mixed drinks (any drink, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, where two or more drinks are mixed together), cocktail garnishes, and related drinkware that are stubs.
Tagging articles with this template is helpful; actually improving the article is extremely helpful and eases the burden of work facing all the Project volunteers.
Usage
Anyone may identify an article as stub. Doing so helps the WikiProject participants and other editors locate and improve these articles. If you use this template frequently, consider becoming a Project Participant.
To use this template, enter {{mixed-drink-stub}}
at or near the bottom of the article you wish to have identified as a mixed drink or drinkware related stub.
Do not subst: this tag. This template is occasionally updated by the Mixed Drinks Task Force; so, the tag needs to remain dynamically generated, not substituted.
You may quickly check the list of stub articles by referring to Category:Mixed drink stubs.
Resulting actions
Tagging an article as a stub should initiate the following actions (preferably by you immediately following the tagging of the article):
- Recipe information should be trans-wikied to Wikibooks. Use the Wikibooks cross-reference tag to link from the Wikipedia article to the Wikibooks article.
- Use good judgment to determine if any of the recipe information should remain in the article. Usually a brief reference to the primary ingredients and approximate proportions is adequate.
- If there is a reason to include recipes within the article (perhaps key historical variations in the drink due to changes in availability of key ingredients resulting in considerable changes to the recipe as new ingredients were substituted), be sure to adequately explain within the article why the examples are notable and worthy of documentation within the encyclopedia.
- Note portions of the article that contain claims or statements lacking adequate citations. Use the
{{citation needed}}
template to mark the portions. Better yet, locate a good reference yourself and document it. - If the style of the article could use improvement, consider improving it.
- With a little extra work, you may be able to improve a stub into a much better article.
- Summarize key actions you have taken, and note items that still need work.
- View and update the Project to-do list to note your changes.
General information
This is a stub template. A brief explanation of these templates follows; for full details please consult Wikipedia:Stub.
What is a stub?
A stub is an article containing only a few sentences of text which is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject.
How is a stub identified?
- If possible, try to find the most appropriate stub template for the article. A full list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/List of stubs.
- More than one stub template may be used, if necessary, though no more than four should be used on any article.
- Place a stub template at the very end of the article, after the "External links" section, any navigation templates, and the category tags. As usual, templates are added by including their name inside double braces, e.g.
{{stub}}
.
Further information
Further information can be found at:
New stub templates and categories (collectively "stub types") should not be created without prior proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This allows for the proper coordination of all stub types across Wikipedia, and for the checking of any new stub type for possible problems prior to its creation.
