Multiple user boxes stretch across the screen, causing display issues

Wbm1058 As I mentioned at Talk:Tesla Model S, the same display issues with the userboxes even in Gonnym's user page. And in the user page, it is not just on the iPad. Even the desktop is showing a gray background on the right. I request you to now read Wikipedia:Userboxes to help decide what is best in these situations. Neel.arunabh (talk) 00:59, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That user has chosen to put their user boxes in a table. I'm not aware of any userbox regulations specifying how they may or may not be arranged on a user's page. Ultimately the behavior you are complaining about is how wide tables are handled. This behavior should be the same regardless of whether the tables contain user boxes or not. See Help:Table for details of table syntax and functionality. Your issue is with a specific type of table, i.e. wide tables. To make any substantive changes in the handing of wide tables, MediaWiki developers will likely need to implement changes or enhancements. See HERE I searched Phabricator for "wide tables", you may look through these issue reports to find ones that are relevant to your concerns. Oh, I see. In your example on this page, you did not place them in a table. – wbm1058 (talk) 15:35, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
But if you don't put them in a table, you don't duplicate the problem. If I reduce the width of my window to make it really narrow, the userboxes automatically stack into a single column; they don't stay in a single row because I haven't forced them to do that by putting them in a table. – wbm1058 (talk) 15:40, 1 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Your 6 boxes work fine. I find that too for small numbers, but you have rather more boxes, it does not work. Look at my page and you will see the collections of only a few boxes are fine, but more I had to leave them as blocks of three. --Bduke (talk) 03:55, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Lebanese Arabic userboxes

In this template page, for example, the navbox in the bottom refers to North Levantine Arabic. Is there a way to change it to Lebanese Arabic, with the code apc-LB? Nehme1499 12:43, 29 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Userbox question

Is it allowable to have a straight pride flag, on one's userpage? GoodDay (talk) 04:02, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hmm that is a good question. WP:UBCR says Userboxes must not be inflammatory or substantially divisive. The article Straight pride and especially Straight_pride#High_school_shirt_incidents seems to indicate that straight pride in general has been interpreted as a hate group in a similar vein to white supremacy, but as indicated at Straight_pride#Balancing_freedom_of_expression_vs._protection_of_students some balance or at least context may be needed. - Ahunt (talk) 12:31, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Dead thread but I’d personally recommend sidestepping the issue and just putting a Straight ally box on your page. Dronebogus (talk) 00:05, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Fixing disambiguation links

What is the etiquette regarding fixing links on userboxes, especially disambiguation links and links to sections? I'm looking through car userboxes right now and many of the sections have been renamed or reorganized since the userboxes were created. Which admittedly in some cases is ten years or more ago. I've been dumping a bunch of userboxes on one of my subpages and seeing if any of the links needed completing, and (in boredom) creating my own or replicating existing ones so that I can understand syntax. Bobo. 22:38, 27 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You can correct links like that in other people's userboxes, just leave a clear edit summary as to why the change was made. - Ahunt (talk) 01:50, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks. I didn't want to look like I was being inappropriate by editing others' userboxes. Bobo. 02:16, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

New Parkinson's userbox which needs tweaking

I've created User:Doug Weller/Userbox/Parkinson's with help from User:Ahecht who created the ribbon. I think the formatting needs tweaking but it's a bit beyond me. And should I put this somewhere? Thanks. Doug Weller talk 14:00, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It looks okay to me. What do you think needs adjusting on it? I have added it to the page at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Health#General so other people will see it. - Ahunt (talk) 14:31, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Ahunt: thanks for adding it. I guess it's ok then! Doug Weller talk 17:21, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Userboxes on Gallery

Are you allowed to post userboxes you make on the gallery as soon as you make them, or is there some sort of approval process you need to follow first? Urban Versis 32 (talk) 23:58, 27 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Category for Userbox

I was trying to find a category (In the userbox galleries) for the following userbox but couldn't decide where to put it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where this userbox should be placed in the galleries?

    Urban Versis 32 (talk) 00:22, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Was there a question? - Ahunt (talk) 19:03, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Lily's pads: Hi! The way to use a userbox is to put it on your own user page, not on the userbox page's talk page! Many people also make sure they're on the specific Wikiproject's participant list. - Purplewowies (talk) 18:41, 8 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Is there a userbox template with scrolling?

Something like {{userboxtop}}/{{userboxbottom}}, except it allows scrolling so to prevent the userpage from getting too large. —Mythdon (talkcontribs) 14:59, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

There is a means of collapsing them to hide them. - Ahunt (talk) 15:07, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I recall someone having a userpage where there was a scrollbar in the userbox section of their userpage. —Mythdon (talkcontribs) 15:08, 5 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Mythdon: you can use <div style="width:248px;overflow:scroll;height:50%;">...</div>. Width is to force userboxes into one column (exactly what {{userboxtop}} does); overflow:scroll is what enables the scrolling; adjust the height to your liking in any of the CSS units. Demonstration:
    one
    two
    three
    four
    five
    six
    seven
Hope this helps. —andrybak (talk) 20:38, 17 September 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    History of the userbox

Hi everyone, I'm doing a Signpost article on userboxes (User:Urban_Versis_32/sandbox/Signpost/1). I need some help with the History of the userbox segment, so if anyone is familiar on userboxes, information would be greatly appreciated (Please reply below). Also, I'm open to accuracy-checking on the article if anyone wants to do so (It's nice to have a fresh eye sometimes). Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 18:27, 19 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    Proposed move for Yy templates

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I've suggested moving Template:Yy (WhyWhy) and its ilk to more meaningful names. The original template names will be retained as shortcut redirects so existing pages will not need to be changed. My proposed moves are as follows:

    1. Template:YytopTemplate:Userbox table start
    2. Template:YyTemplate:Userbox table entry
    3. Template:YycatTemplate:Userbox table category
    4. Template:YytxtTemplate:Userbox table text
    5. Template:YytabTemplate:Userbox table link
    6. Template:YytabcitiesTemplate:Userbox table regional link
    7. Template:YywpTemplate:Userbox table project link
    8. Template:YypTemplate:Userbox table portal link
    9. Template:YynbTemplate:Userbox table noticeboard link
    10. Template:YyendTemplate:Userbox table end

I've posted a proposed documentation page for these new names at User:Buaidh/Userbox table entry. A record of our on-going discussion is shown at Template talk:Yy. Please give me your comments and suggestions for any changes. Thanks,  Buaidh  talk e-mail 20:24, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    • Support, but this is in the wrong spot: These proposed names are fine with me. I do wish that you would stop creating duplicate discussions, though. The original proposal is at Template talk:Yy § Full names. According to the process described at WP:RMPM, the requested-move discussion should be on one of the concerned talk pages, which would be Template talk:Yy. Please do try to read the policies I link. — voidxor 20:41, 13 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The discussion above is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Closing the above - the discussions are already at Template talk:Yy. No need to fragment the discussions. We can just treat this as a notification to the Wikiproject and move on. - jc37 00:58, 14 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

UPDATE: I have formalized the discussion as a requested move here. Everybody is welcome to comment. — voidxor 00:18, 23 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    help

how do i stack userboxes, if you look at my page youll see the two i want to stack. Allaoii talk 18:53, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Done - see if that helps or not! - Ahunt (talk) 21:46, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
no, i want them to be back where they were, with they wikiwolfcub and the bisexual userboxes stacked with the bisexual userbox on the bottom, thanks for trying to help Allaoii talk 21:56, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done. Okay I did that. See how you like it. Once you see the template syntax there, feel free to play around with it yourself to get the desired effect. - Ahunt (talk) 22:08, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
how do i change where the stacked userboxes are? Allaoii talk 22:47, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
That template will only stack them on the right side of your page, unless another page element, like an image interferes with it. It can also be set to "left" instead. There is documentation that explains that all at Template:Userboxtop. - Ahunt (talk) 22:50, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
i cant figure it out, can you maybe tell me what all the options do, then i should be able to figure it out, sorry for needing so much help, im still a noob after several months. Allaoii talk 18:33, 24 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Perhaps it would be easier for you to explain what you are trying to do and I can see if the template can do that? - Ahunt (talk) 00:55, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
im trying to get the userboxes where they would be normally but with them stacked and the bisexual one on the bottom Allaoii talk 22:48, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well normally userboxes are displayed on a user page stacked on the right side, which is what this template does by default. It can be set to stack them on the left side, however. - Ahunt (talk) 23:45, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
but i dont know how to work the template Allaoii talk 19:02, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Perhaps I can configure it for you if you can better describe how you want the page to look. - Ahunt (talk) 19:05, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
how it was before, exept the wikiwolfcub and the bisexual are stacked with the bisexual on the bottom Allaoii talk 00:37, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ah, okay. I tried it just using "break tags" instead and that worked somewhat (see your page history) and then left your page with the template again, but set to left and no top label. I think that may be closer to what you wanted, but see what you think. - Ahunt (talk) 01:08, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ahunt Probably the way I have my userboxes set up. Jerium (talk) 17:59, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ah, I see, using a table looks like it works, too! - Ahunt (talk) 21:51, 1 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
thank you it worked perfectly Allaoii talk 19:52, 2 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

    TemplateData for userboxes

There is no WikiProject Userboxes in my homewiki, so I come here to ask your opinion. How do you think, would adding TemplateData to userboxes make them easier to discover and use? If so, where is the best place to put it: on the template page, on the documentation subpage or a separate subpage? Thanks in advance for your comments. Question

How many userboxes can fit onto a userpage. Catfurball (talk) 19:49, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That is limited by the number of transclusions. There is no fixed number of userboxes, as it depends on complexity, see Help:Template limits. We have hit the transclusion limit on userbox gallery pages, when they break at the bottom and have to be split. - Ahunt (talk) 19:55, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
